Video: Trump Fined for Each Gag Order Violation

Law • Views: 13,472

Well, that’ll teach him.

It’ll teach him that he can continue trying his damnedest to incite violence against his enemies, because they’re not going to jail him for it.

The judge presiding over Donald Trump’s hush money case on Tuesday held the former president in criminal contempt over a series of posts on Truth Social that he said violated a gag order barring any attacks on jurors and witnesses.

The judge’s ruling has some language about possibly jailing Trump if he continues, but if that ever happens I will be the most surprised person who ever lived.

I’m hoping he does send Trump to jail for contempt. The explosion of appeals to SCOTUS and Judge Judy and anyone else who will listen will be deafening.

Trump is daring Merchan to do just that. I don’t think it’s a good idea to cross Merchan (or most judges) by threatening witnesses, jurors, etc.

It should also force DC, GA, and FL cases to get Trump and prosecutors to file papers as to why bail should not be revoked in their cases for violating the no violation of law provisions in their respective bail conditions.

Trump’s problems are multiplicative.

I’ve said that as well. Merchan doesn’t want to do anything weird with fines, like say fining Trump $1,000 per hour his posts remain online after stated deadline, or other ways to try and exceed the $1000 per count limit for contempt as per state law.

He’s basically stated that Trump is out of financial chances, and any other contempt will send him to Rikers.

Doesn’t the Constitution have a downer on “unusual” punishments in sentencing? I see a lot of “wouldn’t it be great if they did [x] to Trump” and I wonder if the sanction they suggest has ever been applied by law enforcement or the judiciary to anyone else in the United States.

Because no one else has consistently ignored a judge’s ruling, so there is no precedent. Any other person would have already been jailed for this behavior.

Supreme Court Puppet Master’s Consulting Firm Clients Exposed in Leak

THE CONSULTING FIRM led by Leonard Leo, the architect of the Supreme Court’s conservative supermajority, has worked for billionaire Charles Koch’s political advocacy network and a dark-money group that is currently arguing a Supreme Court case designed to preempt a wealth tax, according to documents obtained by Rolling Stone. The firm even worked to promote a book by Donald Trump cronies Corey Lewandowski and David Bossie.

Leo has played a central role in shifting the high court and its decisions far to the right. As former President Donald Trump’s judicial adviser, Leo helped select three of the Supreme Court’s six conservative justices. He also leads a dark-money network that boosted their confirmations and helps determine what cases the justices hear and shape their rulings.

The Supreme Court connection has paid off for Leo — big time. In 2021, he was gifted control of a $1.6 billion political advocacy slush fund. Over the past decade, Leo’s dark money network has plowed more than $100 million into his for-profit consulting firm, CRC Advisors.

Leo co-chairs the Federalist Society, the conservative lawyers network. He is also the chairman of CRC. Like many consulting firms, CRC does not publicly disclose its clients. However, several of the firm’s clients were named in resumes that applicants submitted to an online jobs bank hosted by the Conservative Partnership Institute, which accidentally left the files exposed online.

Alex Hassilev, last original member of the ’60s folk trio the Limeliters, dies at 91

Alex Hassilev, the singing, songwriting, guitar and banjo virtuoso who was the last surviving original member of 1960s folk trio the Limeliters, died of cancer April 21 at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank. He was 91.

Hassilev was the youngest member of the Limeliters, whose other original members were bassist and comic spokesman Lou Gottlieb (1923-1996) and star tenor Glenn Yarbrough (1930-2016). The band was second only to the Kingston Trio in its popularity during the peak years of the American urban folk music boom of the late 1950s and early ’60s.

After becoming a hit act at San Francisco’s fabled hungry i nightclub only two months after their formation in 1959, the Limeliters became an inescapable presence in mass media. They recorded 13 albums, appeared on television and toured as many as 310 days out of the year. Their most enduring album, “Through Children’s Eyes,” was popular among generations of children and their parents.

Shit like this is how those three shirtless Israeli hostages got killed while waving a white flag, with the final wounded hostage followed into a building and murdered while he begged for his life in fluent Hebrew. There’s an entire entrenched subculture within the Israeli government and IDF that simply does not view Palestinians as even potential human beings, to the point where an injured hostage begging for mercy in their own language was viewed as a perfidious enemy.

At a recent security cabinet meeting with the IDF chief of staff, far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir questioned whether it was necessary to arrest so many terror operatives during operations in Gaza, and wondered whether the military couldn’t “kill some,” according to reports in Hebrew media.

The quotes, publicized on Friday by Channel 12 and Ynet, were said to have come from a meeting earlier this week, as Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi briefed ministers on recent operations and noted the arrests of hundreds of gunmen who surrendered to the troops.

“Why are there so many arrests?” Ben Gvir reportedly asked. “Can’t you kill some? Do you want to tell me they all surrender? What are we to do with so many arrested? It’s dangerous for the soldiers.”

Thought experiment: what would be happening, were a black gang leader threatening the D.A., judge’s family and witnesses, and had in the recent past, sent legions of his gang members on a violent rampage, attempting to hunt down elected officials?

Keys picked up from the counter , my wife grabbing her purse and me zipping a jacket. Those were signals to our beloved Kasper that there was the possibility of a car ride or a walk to the park. We learned hope and love from him. He loved us and we loved him. He was hopeful to the end. F%%k cancer. Our home feels a lot emptier today. Till we meet again!

😢 So sorry for your loss!! Dogs are family,

I really love that I can actually engage with the developers at Bluesky, and they listen and try to help. I could get used to this.

Trying to get developer assistance from Twitter was like talking to a fucking brick wall.

“Why are there so many arrests?” Ben Gvir reportedly asked. “Can’t you kill some? Do you want to tell me they all surrender? What are we to do with so many arrested? It’s dangerous for the soldiers.”

Because

1) proper, skillful interrogation may yield useful information; and
2) if they’re going to trade a few thousand Palestinian prisoners for the hostages, they need to have a few thousand Palestinian prisoners to trade.

Also, as they are criminals, they can be tried as publicly as possible.

He has griped that Mr. Blanche, a former federal prosecutor and veteran litigator, has not been following his instructions closely, and has been insufficiently aggressive. Mr. Trump wants him to attack witnesses, attack what the former president sees as a hostile jury pool, and attack the judge, Juan M. Merchan.

ETTD

(Blanche is living a criminal defense attorney’s worst nightmare; a non cooperative client in a case counsel can’t withdraw)

Blanche should definitely attack the jury, over and over again. That’s a great strategy.

With most people I would say the desire to attack people who can ruin him is coming from the dementia, but he’s always believed that he can abuse his way out of trouble.

If Trump thinks the jurors are hostile to him he’s probably right. A master con man knows how to read people.

Why do I hear Marissa Tomei’s dialogie with Joe Pesci in “My cousin Vinny”:
Vinny: Your Honor, may I ask your permission to treat Ms. Vito as a hostile witness?
Lisa: You think I’m hostile now? Wait till you see me tonight.

At the criminal trial where he faces the least peril. If we can manage to not hand the country to the crazy asshole, the rest of his life will be fear and suffering.

I can remember the very first book I read in Kindergarten—Poker Dog.

It was about a dog named Sam who stepped on a rake and everyone made fun of him because he limped after that except his master Jimmy.

After that everyone called Sam “Poker Dog”. Didn’t stop Jimmy from loving Sam.

The moral of the book is that it’s not what you look like on the outside but what’s inside that counts.

re: #37 🐈 Crush White Christian Nationalism 🐈

I grew up with “Through Children’s Eyes” I was six when it came out and I still remember singing along to it (it was one of the forst LPs to have the lyrics on the record cover the LP went into).

My parents lived in the Bay Area and had seen Lou Gottleib and the Gateway Singers at the Hungry i in San Francisco in the 50s. She kept up with him and when the Limeliters were formed got every one of their albums. And played them until they wore out.

She hated the Kingston Trio because of their copyright antics. So folk in our house was the Limeliters (and some Odetta).

I actually bought an 8-track recorder to put their albums on, along with Tom Lehrer, to play in my car before cassettes took over. Such great driving music.

I was lucky enough to see them while I was going to Caltech, in a reunion concert I think in 76 or 77. Front row seats. With the original 3, I believe, althoug I think one of their sons was also covering on guitar. It was amazing.

I always thought the Folksmen seen in A Mighty Wind were a reference to the Limeliters. They played the same instruments (long-necked 5 string banjo used by Alex, stand up bass by Lou and guitar by Glenn; that trembling vibrato by Guest was an obvious nod to Glenn; and sing the same mix of songs).
